Red Mountain Golf Club
This most dramatic of golf courses is one of the most recognisable in Thailand. With high tees, incredibly undulating fairways and stunning red rock formations, Red Mountain Golf Club is worth taking on even for those players whose handicap is ridiculously high, if only for the scenery and the chance to just be here.
Red Mountain was hewn from a former tin mine in central Phuket in 2007 (designed by Jonathan Morrow), just 15 minutes from Phuket’s main beach. It measures a modest 6,900 yards, though golf carts are a must here since much of the course is spread over high ground, with stunning natural hazards and cliffs lining the course.
Quality grasses are used throughout, including Bermuda grass on the fast greens. Other facilities at the Red Mountain Golf Club include a grass driving range and practise greens, while the modern clubhouse has a restaurant and spa with various massage options.
The central location of Red Mountain makes it accessible from just about everywhere on Phuket, including Patong and Kamala beaches. Aside from the beaches, nearby attractions include the popular Kathu Waterfall (only really impressive during the wet season) and old Phuket Town, with its Chinese shop houses and markets.
