Mission Hills Golf Club
The sea views and Bermuda fairways of Jack Nicklaus’s Mission Hills Phuket are stunning. Probably Phuket’s most talked about course, it comes with picture postcard vistas and the golf is pretty good, too. Residing just 40 minutes from Patong, 15 minutes from the airport, this fine club attracts visitors from far and wide and also comes with accommodation.
Mangrove forests and watery views are synonymous with Mission Hills, which opened in 2004 on Phuket’s northeast coast. Many holes play out over the sea, though there is also a backdrop of mountains and vast bunkering. Regular stiff breezes can make play tricky, though the Bermuda fairways and sea isle greens play beautifully. Black tees are incorporated at Mission Hills, including the signature par-4 12th hole.
Golf buggies are compulsory and necessary on a typical hot Phuket day, while drinks can be ordered and delivered course-side. A1 service extends to the clubhouse, which has a spa and restaurant with tasty seafood. A freeform swimming pool sits in front of the hotel, which offers choice accommodation for those who prefer to remain on site.
Nai Yang is the closest main beach to Mission Hills Golf Club; the east, leeward side of Phuket does not have nice beaches. Those seeking busier beach resorts need to look to southwest Phuket.
