Mae Jo Golf Club
Mae Jo Golf Club is one of the more accessible, reasonably priced golf courses in the Chiang Mai area. An 18-hole course, it sits off to the northeast of Chiang Mai city, near Mae Jo University, about 20 minutes from the city and comes with fine fairways and views of the surrounding mountains. Tree-lined fairways and well set accommodation are hallmarks.
The club was designed by local golf course architect Seni Thirawat in 2004 to suit all golfing abilities. It measures 6,657 yards and boasts wide open fairways of hardy zoysia grass, doglegs and water hazards. Expect long par fives and sloping Korean velvet grass greens as well as stunning views from later holes.
Practise facilities include putting and chipping greens and a driving range, while in true northern Thai traditional style architectural tradition, the clubhouse is finished in the Lanna style and features a lodge and restaurant.
Resort accommodation is available at Mae Jo Golf Club, with some of the dozens of rooms overlooking the greens. Though class hotels are available in Chiang Mai itself, the resort is serene and well away from major roads and traffic, plus guests also get a large swimming pool and extensive gardens. Drives to the local reservoir and hilltop temple with stunning views over all of Chiang Mai are popular.
