Blue Canyon Country Club
Situated very close to Phuket International Airport is the top ranked Blue Canyon Country Club, one of Thailand’s best championship courses. Playing host to various big tournaments and players, Blue Canyon is beautifully laid out and makes for the perfect golfing escape for those staying in the north of the island. Tiger Woods won here in 1998 at the Johnnie Walker Classic.
The course hails from the early 1990s, when it was designed by Yoshikazu Kato over an old tin mine. Evidence of this is seen throughout the course, which has old quarries and striking rock formations. Fairways are lined by giant palms and are very natural and undulating.
The old clubhouse has showers and changing rooms, along with a pro shop with men and women’s apparel. There are three restaurants on site as well as a spa, swimming pool and golf academy. The golf resort has nice rooms with Wi-fi internet, with some rooms also offering Jacuzzi equipped bathrooms. The alternative is to stay at Nai Yang or Mai Khao beaches, which are close to the course and airport.
Many visitors find themselves in Patong, Karon or Kata, the main holiday bases on the island of Phuket, which are around a 40-minute drive from Blue Canyon Country Club.
