Loch Palm Golf Club
This medium sized course in central Phuket is the best placed of the major golf courses on the holiday island. Favoured by both locals and visiting players, Loch Palm Golf Club is very enjoyable with its parkland layout, quiet resort and proximity to Patong, Phuket Town and the international airport.
Dr Sukitti Klangvisai designed Loch Palm in 1993 and, at a bit over 6,500 yards, it is one of the shorter courses here. It goes around two huge lakes and is surrounded by hills and jungle close to Kathu Waterfall, a popular tourist attraction. Most holes include the lakes (or lochs) and feature open fairways, though the back nine is more unforgiving.
Players can walk Loch Palm Golf Club as carts are not compulsory here, plus there’s a useful driving range on site and decent Thai food at the renovated clubhouse. Accommodation is available on site, which is best for those who prefer an early, heat-avoiding start, though numerous hotels are on offer at nearby resort towns.
Patong is just 15 or 20 minutes away from Loch Palm, and both Karon and Kamala and easy to access from the course. The west coast of Phuket has the best beaches – Kata Noi is a real gem – while numerous attractions are within reach. Phuket Water Ski Cableway is practically next door.
