Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai
Residing just 30 minutes from the centre of Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai International Airport, the 18-hole Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai (formerly Chiang Mai Lamphun Golf Club) is a classic Ron Garl-designed course for the serious player. Set amid hundreds of rai of sweeping San Kampaeng forest, this resort makes for the perfect escape from busy Chiang Mai or Bangkok.
The 7,541-yard course is one of Thailand’s longest, which also features a very long par five (at 652 yards) and a testy island fairway on the ninth. The course is par-72 and Ron Garl, one of the most notable of course creators who designed such popular courses as the Palm Beach Polo Club, Florida, has managed to blend Alpine in nicely with the golden teakwood forests of the region. While undoubtedly a challenge, it is also good for all players, with white, blue and black tee boxes.
Alpine offers comprehensive facilities, featuring a quality star-rated resort with a full range of visitor facilities and a range of accommodation options from superiors to suites. An international banquet restaurant has al fresco dining with local and Western dishes, plus there’s a heritage spa with luxury pavilions overlooking an outdoor pool. Also on site is a driving range and pro shop.
The course is located off route 1147, near Lamphun and a half-hour drive from Chiang Mai. It is a fine area, with easy driving along wide, lazy roads, and the famous Sankamphaeng Hot Springs and Crazy Horse Buttress are just a 15-minute drive.
